4 Recipes for Gourmet RV Cooking
Fall is here and it’s the perfect time for a hearty comfort meal. Cooking in an RV is not always ideal, so here are four gourmet recipes you can easily whip up in your small space.
One Pot Chili
Chili is a tried and true cold-weather companion. Motorhome cooking works best when the recipe is simple and doesn’t require a bunch of pots on the stove. This one-pot recipe takes about a half-hour and creates minimal dishes to clean. It uses ground beef, but you can sub ground turkey. Brown the meat with onions and jalapeno before adding the rest of the ingredients – save the toppings. Simmer your chili for 15 minutes, and it’s ready to serve. Top with cheese, sour cream, and fresh jalapeno to complete your tasty meal.
Protein Peanut Butter Rounds
When you’re limited on space and storage, having a recipe that doesn’t require a long list of ingredients or uses common household items makes your life easier! Try these 5-ingredient protein peanut butter bites for a fast snack that you can save for later. Mix up some semi-sweet chocolate chips, oats, honey, peanut butter – or almond butter, and protein powder or flax for extra nutrients. Roll your ingredients into balls, and let them set in the fridge. Voila! Next time you sense the hangries coming on, you can grab a few of these sweet treats to tide you over.
Dutch Oven Apple Crisp
It’s pie season! Making a traditional apple pie can get messy in an RV, so we found a simpler, but equally delicious apple dessert that requires a little less work. This Dutch oven apple crisp recipe uses your ceramic or seasoned cast iron dish to bake up some goodness this fall. Mix up your filling with apples, lemon, sugar, and raisins. Make the topping out of oats, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, flour, and the secret ingredient – cardamom. Spread the apple mixture along the bottom of a greased Dutch oven and the crispy topping mixture. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes until the apples are fully cooked and the top is golden brown. Don’t forget to serve with ice cream!
Thanksgiving Turkey
If it’s your first year in an RV, you might be thinking ahead for the holidays. A traditional turkey might not fit in your smaller oven. When you’re working in a small space, a few RV cooking appliances can go a long way to making holiday meals easier on you. Especially if you can afford the storage, having an instant pot handy is a great option for cooking your turkey this year. This recipe uses either a breast or a whole 8- to 9-pound bird. The best part? It takes less than an hour and makes the juiciest fall-off-the-bone turkey.
Bon appétit RV chefs!
