Celebrate the Holidays RV-Style: Fun & Festive Travel Tips
Planning to spend the holidays in your RV this year? Get ready for festive fun in a cozy space – here are some great tips for celebrating Christmas on the road.
Deck the RV Halls
The first step when preparing for Christmas vacation in an RV is to decorate from hitch to bumper. If you’re parked for the season, you can utilize lights outdoors and indoors to inspire a bit of holiday cheer. Inside, swap your everyday pillows, throws, and rugs with festive counterparts so you don’t lose space. The most difficult decor item to plan for is a Christmas tree. You can purchase a small tabletop tree, or you can also find a front-half only tree. This fresh decor idea is perfect for small living because you don’t have to accommodate for the full circumference, it’s meant to tuck against a free corner or wall and gives you the full height and feel of a standard tree.
Holiday Party Hosting in an RV
One of the best parts of celebrating the holidays in Arizona is that it’s warm enough to take the party outdoors. Invite your guests for a cheerful shindig at the coach and dress an outdoor table with seasonal tablecloths and settings. Grab a gas fire pit for ambiance, and you’re ready to party down.
If you have a few friends in the community, plan a stop at each RV. One person can host hors d’oeuvres, another can serve the main course, and another can mix up after-dinner drinks. It limits the amount of prep one person has to do, and the dishes and clean-up responsibilities are shared.
Christmas Dinner
Cooking a holiday meal with a smaller kitchen can prove difficult. There’s simply not enough space to fit everything in the oven or to have a stovetop full of pots and pans. Stick to an uncomplicated menu and, when you can, cook ahead of time. You can make mashed potatoes, gravy, etc., earlier in the week and reheat it before it’s time to serve.
Still planning that holiday party with friends? Host your dinner potluck style where everyone brings one thing.
Less Is More
One thing to remember about Christmas in an RV is that excess is no longer a priority in your life. You’ve chosen less so you can enjoy what really matters. Don’t feel pressured to go over the top with holiday decorations, gifts, or meals. All you need is good company and warm conversation to capture the spirit of the holidays.
